THOUGHTS AND COMMENTS
Sorry this took so long, had way too many tests and projects these past two weeks. The race itself was actually pretty reminiscent of Sebring, which was the last time we did a 2 hour endurance race. Small issues at the start and then clean racing until the end. Field spread out a lot, but there was some good battling at the front. Shame we were down on numbers though, but this month wasn’t great in terms of picking a good date. On a bright note though, somehow we avoided the invisible cars glitch for reasons I don’t understand. I was honestly prepping for Spa levels of glitching, but it never happened, thankfully. I think that fear may have also played a part in people not racing, and I don’t blame them. Hopefully we can continue to avoid the bug until it is resolved. If it is ever resolved...
Now let’s talk about the end of the race. I think mass confusion best sums it up. To be honest I’m still not sure who was saying what, but there were multiple people saying to wait for the leader before the end of the race is called while I was saying the right procedure, then once I clarified the procedure people were questioning it which just added to the now compounding confusion. Now, it can and has been debated whether or not the end of race procedure is good or not, but nevertheless it is the end of race procedure, you should follow it and then discuss its merits or lack there of after the race. The only person you should be listening to for any rules in general is me, unless I confirm that what someone else said was correct. Listen for my calls and take them as gospel, at least until after the race. Now if you can’t hear me because of people talking, which is what happened here, you should be familiar with the rules in place. The rules can be found on the original sign up post, which has been linked off of everything I have ever posted for this series. I try to include as little rules as possible, but the few that are there need to be followed, otherwise we end up in situations like this.
As for the end of race procedure itself, you all have given me your thoughts on it and I have been thinking about the best course of action over the past two weeks. After considering everything, I think it is best if the end of race procedure remains unchanged for now. There’s only two races left in the series that will occur over the next month, and I think a major rule shakeup would just cause more confusion, especially after the current procedure has now been clarified following what happened this past round. However, I will be modifying the end of race procedure for the next series (shit I need to make a post about that...), using all of your input and real world series as guidelines. But for the time being, the current procedure stays.
Next up on the calendar is the final sprint round: Mugello. Not much to say other than that the race is December 1st at 6:00 PM EDT, so we’ll be on for a double header with RMPC, which you should also race in. BoP however will most likely be finished mid week of the race again, as that is when I am expecting my wheel to be fixed (for real this time). In addition, something I forgot to mention in the poll results for Round 11 is that I am adding a second drop round to both Sports-Proto and GT drivers championships, so a lot of people are being brought back into the fight. Or if you’re not in the run for those championships, I recommend picking up the torch for your favorite manufacture, as those points championships are in fact very close.
Only two rounds to go ! Hard to believe we’re already in the closing stages of the series. Hopefully we go out with a bang . See you at the next race!
